Life and Career
Heinz, a trained baker and confectioner, was born on January the 30th in 1960, in Uderns/Austria. He won several Austrian National Championship titles in motocross (125 cc, 250 cc and 500 cc) in 1978. In 1982 he celebrated his first major victory on a Yamaha at the Italian Grand Prix in the 250cc Motocross World Championship. 1984 and 1985 he won World Championship titles in the 250 cc class. At the end of the 1980’s Heinz started to participate in rallies. After some racing successes and a strong performance at the Dakar Rally, Heinz ended his career in 2003 after the tragic accident of his son Hannes. In addition to his motorcycle career, Heinz became a sports manager at KTM in 1992, where he is still active until today. In 2002 he founded the KINI Sport-Management GmbH together with his children Hannes and Isabell. The company sells motocross sports- and streetwear online and in specialist shops. His son’s accident, which led to paraplegia, caused him to establish the “Wings for Life” research foundation together with Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2004. The foundation’s visionary objective is to cure paraplegia by sponsoring spinal cord research projects.
