About

Born on September 15, 1983, Hannes was given his first motorcycle as a three-year-old. However, he only started his first race at the age of 14. After winning several local championships, the Tyrolean Alpine Cup title and notable successes in enduro racing, Hannes contested his first national championship race at the age of 18. On July 26, 2003, however, his hitherto promising motorsport career came to an abrupt end with a serious crash at a charity race for a home for the disabled, in which he suffered a severe spinal cord injury and has been paralyzed from the fifth cervical vertebra down ever since. This tragic event was the trigger for his father Heinz to set up “Wings for Life”, a foundation for spinal cord research, together with Dietrich Mateschitz. Despite his accident, Hannes has not lost his passion for motorsport and, in addition to his work for the Kini Red Bull Line and his daily training, he is still involved in various motorsport events.
